Wipro expands advisory consulting by acquiring Edgile

In 2020, Wipro Limited, a leading global information technology and business process services company, undertook a company-wide transformation. Wipro wanted to strengthen its leadership in strategic cybersecurity services across Global 2000 companies by expanding their key growth markets from America to Europe and Asia. A focus on making strategic acquisitions enabled the firm to complement their existing offerings and expertise by injecting more technology, automation and strategic consulting capabilities into their offerings.

Following the December 2020 appointment of Tony Buffomante as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Wipro Cybersecurity and Risk Services, the firm identified Edgile, a cybersecurity consulting company with more than two decades of strategic advisory experience, as a coveted acquisition target. This deal, which was completed at the end of 2021, helped to expand Wipro’s capabilities and develop an end-to-end, holistic service model, providing customers with advisory, implementation and managed services across the security spectrum.

“Adding Edgile’s strategic consulting capabilities is a significant milestone on our journey to becoming the trusted partner to security leaders and boardroom stakeholders,” said Buffomante. “I see the team blending very well with Wipro’s Cybersecurists to deliver transformational cybersecurity on a global scale.”

Edgile’s strategy-first approach to security

The Edgile story began in the early 90s when Edgile founder Don Elledge was a partner at Deloitte. The digital revolution was making enterprises more vulnerable to internal and external threats. And IT security officer roles were evolving as it became necessary for these leaders to help the business strategically address these new challenges.

Elledge saw an opportunity to transform the consulting business with a model that was better suited to meeting the needs of the modern enterprise. He founded Edgile in 2001 and invested heavily in senior talent who understood the interdependencies of risk, security and compliance and who could serve as trusted advisors in an age of increasing uncertainty. The Edgile security consulting model was built around a strategy-first, business-aligned approach that helped to elevate the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) into the C-suite with the power to execute transformational digital strategies and secure the modern enterprise.
